What motivates Shemeska the Marauder?

Man, it's been a while since I was here. Still, swirling ideas for a new Planescape campaign, and so, a question to the audience:

What does Shemeska the Marauder want? Going off of Uncaged, she appears to mostly be interested in greater power/wealth/status, but it's also hinted that she may have other goals as well -- notably, her protection of Kylie. So, has anyone done anything more with Shemmy's motivations or greater desires?

Or to take a different perspective, what might prompt Shemeska to take some serious risks?

One theory, particularly

One theory, particularly promoted by Shemeskas Storyhour, is that she is spying for somebody within the yugoloth hierarchy.

Heh, I can't remember what

Heh, I can't remember what was official vs what was in Shemeska's Story Hour anymore.

I know she wanted to have at least some control over what happened in Sigil, but I don't believe we ever got more about her motivation beyond greed and mob-boss arrogance in the canon texts?

Portals are a girl's best friends

Ultimately I expect that she wants control of Sigil.

In the short term, yes. I

In the short term, yes. I like to think she has bigger goals, ultimately. The end of her exile to Sigil, reinstatement into the hierarchy of Khin-Oin, the Tower Arcane, or the Tower of Incarnate Pain. Ousting one of the existing ultroloths and becoming an ultroloth herself. Ousting one of the altraloths and becoming mistress of one of the three towers.

Goddess of the Crosstrade

That makes sense Kaelyn.

But what about this scenario...

  1. Shemeshka becomes ruler of the Cage, deposing Her Serenity The Lady of Pain.
  2. Shemeshka then pursues the path of becoming a goddess and rises to the level of Greater goddess due to her influence over the City of Doors.
  3. Shemeshka leap-frogs the Altraloths in terms of influence and plays them against each other in order to influence the Yugoloths and Lower planes as a whole...

The suggestion (for 2e/3e)

The suggestion (for 2e/3e) was that she was presumed to be in Sigil as a proxy of sorts for the Oinoloth. Maybe. Perhaps.

In 4e her role was described thusly: "A number of rumors circulate, some of them likely planted by Shemeshka herself, but little proof exists to confirm them. Some say that she was originally sent to Sigil as something of a personal, hand-picked representative of Phraxus and then, once inside and isolated from the Lord of Khin-Oin and the politics of Blood Rift, she betrayed him, selling her services to the highest bidder and carving out an empire of her own. She may have been the unwanted and abandoned child of Larsdana Ap Neut, an ancient, ferociously powerful and long-vanished raavasta sorceress who designed and constructed the Tower of the Raavastas. Still other rumors paint an altogether prosaic picture of the fiend as simply nothing out of the ordinary for her kind, with little to differentiate her from the legions of scribes, sorcerers, and contract-binders she emerged from. Rather than hiding some profound secret or crime, Shemeshka may have buried her past out of nothing more than soothing an ego that couldn’t accept having once been less than is now."

I don't have a clue if she has been mentioned in 5e (because I play Pathfinder and haven't had the time to pay a ton of attention to 5e).

I doubt that she'd want to become a deity, given how abhorrent the idea of divinity is to the 'loths. She probably just enjoys making everyone in Sigil dance to her tune and suffer along the way while she gets to sit, look pretty, bask in her own vanity, and sip the most expensive wine (or tears) that she can.

Ah, well, that's the words

Ah, well, that's the words from the fiend's mouth itself. Thank you! She's rather, shall we say, prominent in my newly started campaign, so this is useful information.
