News: Tony Diterlizzi tracking down old Planescape art for secret project

Thought you guys would find this interesting, news from last month, check it out:

It sounds like Tony Diterlizzi may have some sort of compilation art book in the works, but at this point we're guessing. He calls it his "not-so-secret secret project" on Facebook.

I know that he's gone through

I know that he's gone through and done a few re-draws of his old PS stuff on his blog, talking about what he liked and what he would've done differently. I'd definitely buy a compilation of PS art though, and I'm finally at a point in my life where that wouldn't just be wishful thinking. Hooray!

Update!

Looks like he's going to be releasing an art book with his early work (including Planescape)!

So great. This is turning out to be a real comeback year for the Outer Planes. I wonder if there isn't more to the timing here than coincidence...

His website says it will be

His website says it will be out "next June." I don't know when that was written so it could be 2015 or 2016.

I suspect that it'll be this June, as he made the announcement last year.

I picked up a copy of this at

I picked up a copy of this at GenCon. He signed it and drew a Lady of Pain icon on the inside cover. :D

If I had had the extra $150 to drop, I probably would have picked up the special edition version that has a piece of original artwork along with it.

How much of the art/content is Planescape-related?

So, is much of the book is Planescape material, or is it mostly his other work? Any new tidbits for fans to drool over?

Probably a solid 1/3 to 1/2

Probably a solid 1/3 to 1/2 is Planescape. The book itself focuses almost entirely on his gaming artwork, rather than anything he developed for Spiderwick or Wondla. For the most part, it's all previously published works, though there are a handful of unpublished pieces. Regardless, it's a gorgeous book to just thumb through and admire.

It got me thinking about becoming slightly more serious about doing my own artwork which, I'll be honest, draws on a lot of the same source of inspiration as Tony DiTerlizzi's (Brian Froud/Henson is the one that readily comes to mind).

looking forward

Looking forward to getting a copy of this. Had I been on the ball, I could have dug up the guardinal and linqua art that I think is in storage...

I love his Spiderwick books & art too. Great stuff.
