5th Edition Games

I'm starting to work with another GM to plan out a dual-GM planescape game for our group (about 9 people). Looking through the DMG it looks like we have a good start for a Planescape game there, but there are still more things to take care of such as faction feats and special rules for the planes and planar skills.

I'm curious what additions/changes people here might suggest for a 5th ed Planescape game, either pre or post faction war.

One thing I'm going to do is try and work up a list of faction feats. None required to be in a faction but feats that require a faction to obtain to reflect the special training and benefits of factionhood.

Got anything?

I started a list of homebrew

I started a list of homebrew stuff, although I'm not actively scouring the internet for additions. I'd meant it to be more of an open question: http://www.planewalker.com/content/planescape-5th-edition-homebrew-and-discussion

I don't have much in the way of specific rules of my own yet. I usually create those over the course of play, and this is a new group as yet, new to Planescape. Their concepts will probably be relatively tame, as Planescape goes.

One early thought on factions, though-- while mechanically it makes a certain amount of sense for them to appear as feats and backgrounds, I think it's slightly unfair to the players to force those options on them. Personally, I would treat the mechanical benefits of faction membership as loot; the systems for land ownership and magical boons are a good start. Factor such powers into the campaign's magic item economy, balancing them against the rules given for creating magic items, taking into account the property of being innate to the character against the strictures on their alignment and behaviour.

Quickleaf has a 5E conversion

Quickleaf has a 5E conversion thread over at enworld:

He hasn't posted there for some time, though.

Thanks I'll check those out.

Thanks I'll check those out. Mostly what I'm considering right now is how to handle knowledge skills ESP planar knowledge.

Collaboration with the players

It may sound like a bit of a cop-out but have you considered creating the feats in collaboration with the players?

If these feats are the reward for proving their commitment to the factions beliefs - I think that it will empower the players to shape the development of their characters in a unique way.

You can consult/peer-review outside of the group, such as here or ENWorld, about whether the feats are balanced or not. One more thing to consider is that the faets could be viewed not so much as rewards - as proof of advancement in faction beliefs.

This also opens up the possibilities of non-faction members creating beliefs if they pursue certain ideals and philosophies with their very being. The planes are shaped by beliefs, so why not the characters as well?
