There seems to be a growing number of posts that are not contributing to the discussion on the planes, planescape, etc. For example, any post by "tonsianken".
True. However, when viewed within the light of this being a potential Anarchist, Sinker, or Xaosman plot to disrupt the channels of communication - it might create some interesting role-play opportunities.
The spam is fairly subtle, upon first reading it may appear to be appropriate to the discussion (at a stretch). Now just think about how the working of burgs on the planes of Law could be undermined in a similar ploy. Appear to be the genuine thing, but with enough seeds of disruption/chaos not to get picked up on first inspection. When enough such incidents reach a tipping point... Boom!
Good point. Does that mean Anonymous is a branch of the Revolutionary League? Perhaps a splinter movement within the Sensates have joined forces with the Takers to tip the balance from helping people achieve a state of Being to a state of Having.
I think you're dead on, there, on both counts. The monetization and prepackaging of dreams... I wonder what the d20 Modern update of Planescape would look like now, with ten years of the internet under our belts.
Someone to shoulder some of the burden from Clueless would probably be welcome. I don't know of any other admins or mods on the site in all my time on Planewalker, lurking and active.
There should be a flag on each of the comments to tag it as spam. Is there not? *checks* Hm. Ok looks like that feature got zapped at some point in updates. I'll get that back in.
If the site has some folks that want to act as monitors / moderators I can also bump you guys up to be able to handle some of the cleanup work for spam stuff too.
I've been buried under a truely massive project at work for the last three months that's about to come to a close. So hopefully (?) I'll be able to be around a bit more and take care of the day to day needs.
Ok, I have the spam flags set back up! Here's what to do / how this works:
Hit the "This is spam" button. It will mark it as spam. If *three* (hey Ro3!) if three of you mark the thing as spam, it will auto unpublish whatever it is and add a note on the user account that they put in spam.
It won't auto block the user account cause I don't want to make this a forum weapon. We're usually pretty good about that though so maybe - but for now at least it just puts the user on a list.
I can add notification and stuff later if needed if we start seeing things marked as spam that are clearly not.
Xaos word magic in the language of the interwebs spambot! Can u not love-wonder at simple sunglasses dew beach forest mist in the carpet luxury telephone?
Given the amount of spam I just had to clear out it looks like something has started figuring out how to get pass our "are you human" checks. I've temporarily disabled new account creation until I can sort that out. Will update when I get a better solution in.
Yeah, it doesn't look like we can report the spam either. :-(

In this postmodern futuristic virtual hell in which we find ourselves, the Takers have become the new Chaosmen.

Now Abelee is the new spam account.
I like your perspective folks, but this forum DOES need a report function and at least ONE moderator.
Haha, good stuff guys!
Still gotta agree with Vaevictis. Definitely need a mod lest this place get overrun with spam which I've sadly seen happen to net-spaces before.

I'll do it though I can't promise super rapid results though I usually visit the site once a day. Work can stretch that out though.
Feel free to put me on a trial basis and see if people like me as a mod.
Id' also like to volunteer sciborg2.

Thanks Clueless!
Glad to see you back Clueless!
Happy to take on a monitor role. Just let me know this all works.
Thanks!
Sci
Well, as long as you don't mind the extra workload (little as that probably is right now), Sci, you're certainly deserving. Congrats!
Hmmm, seems like the spam/bot problem is getting worse again.
I'm not seeing a "this is spam" button, am I just blind? Where should I be looking?
If you're logged in, you should see "Flag as spam" in the lower right corner of the frame around any given post.

Heh, considering how many spam posts we had to "flag as spam" in the last few days we're rather a bunch of nit-picking Guvners. ;)
Ah, there it is. "Just blind" it was, then.

Ah, was the re-activation of accounts part of the attempt to clear out bots?
Yes and hopefully it didn't spam too many people in that process.
