Layout Mockup

Started mucking around in InDesign today, to get a layout template going. Here's what I've got at the moment.

Thoughts, guys? What kinds of fonts do you want to use? Would it be better to have the article title take up both columns, or only one column? Font sizes? Should I increase the margins on the text? Do we like the indented 1st line of each paragraph?

I'd say it looks pretty good,

I'd say it looks pretty good, except that the font for the header and page number looks very "modern" for a sword-and-sorcery game. Is the font you're using for section titles open source or Creative Commons for uses like this? If so, the header and page number's my only nit.

Yeah, the fonts definitely

Yeah, the fonts definitely aren't final choices, I kind of just tossed some things together to get a feel for it.

I'll see if I can find something more ~fantasy for the headers and page numbers.

The section title font is Exocet, which, now that you mention it I don't know what the heck use terms it has. It's being used all over the Planewalker website but other than that I have no idea what's up with it. I can change it if we think we're not allowed to use it, though. I can also change it if we just don't want to use it.

The body font is Droid Sans rn, though I haven't given a whole lot of thought yet to whether I like it better or worse than other open source sans serif font options.

Looks great! It reminds me of

Looks great! It reminds me of the final issues of Paizo's Dragon/Dungeon Magazine.

Exocet was used extensively in the original first issue of the Planewalker's Codex, so I guess there shouldn't be any problems with using it, or is there?

Yeah, you're right, we used

Yeah, you're right, we used Exocet last time all over the place. I dug out my old Masthead work and I had Exocet in that, too.

I checked out how Wayfinder does their interiors, and decided to remove the title from the tops of the pages. I put it there because we had it last time, but idk if we really need it? I also did a qucik mockup for the cover. I need to redo the masthead's text in InDesign, so it looks nice and crisp the way text should, but other than that I think it's looking pretty ok.

Also I need to figure out how to disclude the 1st page from the page number count >_> haha

Oh! BTW, apparently I forgot

Oh! BTW, apparently I forgot to post an update here on the situation with the Exocet font. Exocet is available through Adobe Typekit, so we/I/anyone else here who happens to also have Typekit can use it.

Sorry, the file got renamed.

Sorry, the file got renamed. I think it was posted in a different thread but not this one. Current file is at https://www.dropbox.com/s/wyi1w3s2lz7ziry/PWC_Trial-2.pdf?dl=0

That version is pretty old, though. It's missing quite a bit of stuff (incl. the cover). I'm also making some more changes to the layout.
