This is some really great

This is some really great stuff. I am enjoying the music, hoping I can comment on at least some of it in time.

I second Ghost in the Shell, though I think the series is where things really take off. I'm thinking of the Laughing Man and the storyline that followed that one.

Glad you like it. I'm suprised how much of this can actually be found on youtube.

Yeah, absolutely! Stand Alone Complex is even better than the movies.
The Laughing Man and the Individual Eleven storylines are awesome.
Think I've got to re-watch them soon...

Ah, still have to catch up!

Ah, still have to catch up! Work keeping me busy...

“All I wanted, even when I hated you most, was some poor, barren, parched excuse to love you. But you only gave me riddles.”
― Patricia A. McKillip, Harpist in the Wind

“Then you will have to trust me. Beyond logic, beyond reason, beyond hope, trust me.”
― Patricia A. McKillip

This cosmic dance of bursting decadence and withheld permissions twists all our arms collectively, but, if sweetness can win (and it can), then I’ll still be here tomorrow to high-five you yesterday, my friends. Peace.
—The Royal Tart Toter in Adventure Time, “The Other Tarts.”

“Everything’s falling into place
I’m right where I should be
The tides of life all led me here
And that’s why I’m not scared
I know the answer will appear
Please.”

Scientists [supposedly] show future events decide what happens in the past

http://m.digitaljournal.com/science/experiment-shows-future-events-decide-what-happens-in-the-past/article/434829

""Quantum physics is a weird world. It studies subatomic particles, which are the essential building blocks of reality. All matter, including ourselves are made up of them. But, the laws governing the tiny microscopic world seem to be different to those dictating how larger objects behave in our own macroscopic reality.
Quantum laws tend to contradict common sense. At that level, one thing can be two different things simultaneously and be at two different places at the same time. Two particles can be entangled and, when one changes its state, the other will also do so immediately, even if they are at opposite ends of the universe – seemingly acting faster than the speed of light.
Particles can also tunnel through solid objects, which should normally be impenetrable barriers, like a ghost passing through a wall. And now scientists have proven that, what is happening to a particle now, isn't governed by what has happened to it in the past, but by what state it is in the future – effectively meaning that, at a subatomic level, time can go backwards.

To bamboozle you further, this should all be going on right now in the subatomic particles which make up your body...""

Strange and Norrell I: The Language of Birds

http://www.dailygrail.com/Guest-Articles/2015/6/Strange-Norrell-I-The-Language-Birds

"In Norse mythology a taste of dragon's blood could grant the consumer the gift of understanding the birds as, according to the Poetic Edda and the Völsunga saga, it did for the hero Sigurd. Sigurd's story is also depicted in the eleventh century Ramsund carving in Sweden.

In the old folk tales of Wales, Germany, Greece, and beyond there is a long tradition of protagonists being granted the gift of understanding the birds by some magical means. The birds then invariability go on to inform or warn the hero about some danger or hidden treasure following the same patten as the stories of Sigurd (see Russian folk tale The Language of the Birds for an example).

In writings by and upon the ancient Greeks the ability to understand birds is often attributed (though perhaps metaphorically) to real people such as the philosophers Democritus, Anaximander, and Apollonius of Tyana, as well to mythical figures like the soothsayer Melampus."

Strange & Norrell : II - On Fairies and Witchcraft

http://dailygrail.com/Guest-Articles/2015/6/Strange-Norrell-II-Fairies-and-Witchcraft

"The word fairy derives from Middle English faierie (also fayerye, feirie, fairie), a direct borrowing from Old French faerie (Modern French féerie) meaning the land, realm, or characteristic activity (i.e. enchantment) of the legendary people of folklore and romance called (in Old French) faie or fee (Modern French fée). In Johnathan Strange & Mr. Norrell Faerie (or the Other Lands as some magicians call them), the home of the fairies, is an Otherworld realm connected to England by magical means. Clarke's Faerie is a large land with many kingdoms and territories. There is Lost-Hope the home (or brugh) of the fairy known only as The Gentleman With The Thistle-Down Hair, which at times borders or intersects with real world locations such as Sir Walter Pole's Harley-street home. The Gentleman's other kingdoms include The City of Iron Angels, and a place called Blue Castles. There is Pity-Me (“a miserable little place" according to The Gentleman) which, oddly enough, has the name of a real village in Durham, England; "a whimsical name bestowed in the 19th century on a place considered desolate, exposed or difficult to cultivate" according to the Oxford Dictionary of British Place Names. There is also Untold Blessings ("a fine place, with dark, impenetrable forests, lonely mountains and uncrossable seas"). John Usglass – the almighty 12th century magician known as the Raven King – is held to have possessed three kingdoms: one in England, one in Faerie (the name of which is not given) and "a strange country on the far side of Hell" sometimes called the Bitter Lands. Indeed, relations between Faerie and Hell are well established, not least in Scottish folk tradition where “the teind” (tithe) must be paid by the former to the latter every seven years. Mortals who have strayed into the Other Lands are sometimes taken as payment as hinted at in the 16th century ballad of Tam Lin and the 15th century romance of Thomas the Rhymer (itself later condensed into a ballad)."

For Athar, likely those who don't follow the Greater Unknown -

For Godsmen:

Telaesthesia [clairvoyance] is not the only spiritual law, nor are subliminal uprushes affairs of the intellect alone. Beyond and above man’s innate power of world-wide perception, there exists also that universal link of spirit with spirit which in its minor earthly manifestations we call telepathy. Our submerged faculty— the subliminal uprushes of genius— can expand in that direction as well as in the direction of telaesthesia. The emotional content, indeed, of those uprushes is even profounder and more important than the intellectual;— in proportion as Love and Religion are profounder and more important than Science or Art.

For Dustmen who think True Death leads to a better reality, or Athar who do follow the Greater Unknown:

"Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting:
The Soul that rises with us, our life's Star
Hath had elsewhere its setting,
And cometh from afar:
Not in entire forgetfulness,
And not in utter nakedness,
But trailing clouds of glory do we come
From God, who is our home:
Heaven lies about us in our infancy!
Shades of the prison-house begin to close
Upon the growing Boy,
But he beholds the light, and whence it flows
He sees it in his joy;
The Youth, who daily farther from the east
Must travel, still is Nature's priest,
And by the vision splendid
Is on his way attended;
At length the Man perceives it die away,
And fade into the light of common day."

A Sensate to a Guvner:

A Sensate to a Guvner:

When figures and numeric shapes,
No longer show us moons or apes;
When those who merely kiss and sing,
Trump scholars taught in everything;
When to free life the world retreats,
And in the world this free heart beats;
When then anew by light and shade,
True clarity will be displayed;
When we in fairy tales and verse,
See history from its first birth;
Then at One secret word's delight,
This whole wrong being will take flight.

Are you aware that Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell has been made in to a mini-series by the BBC and is currently on episode 7?

See: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02mrqzv

I believe that BBC America has also made it available for any cutters in the USA.

Journeys of the Soul in the Afterlife: Egyptian Books of the Afterlife and Greek Orphic Mysteries

http://www.esotericquarterly.com/issues/EQ10/EQ1004/EQ100415-French.pdf#page=1

"Although studies in the ancient Greek and Egyptian conception of the afterlife may be extensive, the two systems of belief are rarely set against each other using the comparative method. To that end, this paper will focus on the afterlife conceptions of both of these ancient cultures, exclusively comparing their ideas, images, and practices pertaining to life after death. Additionally, the extent to which these cultures promoted postmortem gnosis and/or wisdom, as opposed to moral scrutiny of individual life-choices, will be explored.

The paper seeks to investigate motivations behind this emphasis on afterlife behavior, recitation, and right-ritual, which both ancient Egypt
and Greece share. The works of two early 20th century scholars of religion, W. Brede Kristensen and G. R. S. Mead, will form the academic basis, as well as the Egyptian Book of the Dead and the more recent archeological discoveries known as the Orphic Gold Tablets"

Kill Six Billion Demons

Kill Six Billion Demons Webcomic:

http://killsixbilliondemons.com/

Comic's Wiki:

http://killsixbilliondemons.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

Quote:
The history of the world spans countless eons. According to Atru mythology, this world existed for an unknown number of years until it was populated by the gods. The Multiplicity, as they were called, constructed the city of Throne and eventually forged the Inheritors, four races of people who were to maintain and expand throughout the Wheel.[1] But by creating the Inheritors, the gods willingly destroyed themselves.[2]

After an extended time had passed, the demiurges arrived in Throne, ushering in an era of prosperity marked by significant technological achievements. The most noteworthy of their discoveries were the Key of Kings and the King's Door, inventions which eventually led to the Universal War and the destruction of nearly every living demiurge. By establishing the Pact of the Seven Part World, the remaining powers took control of the known world and divided it equally amongst themselves. For thousands of years their rule remained unchallenged until Jadis divined a prophecy which described their downfall.

There Is A Brokenness

There Is A Brokenness
-Rashani

There is a brokenness
out of which comes the unbroken,
A shatteredness out of which blooms the unshatterable.
There is a sorrow
Beyond all grief which leads to joy
And a fragility
Out of which depth emerges strength.

There is a hollow space
Too vast for words
Through which we pass with each loss,
Out of whose darkness we are sanctified into being.

There is a cry deeper than all sound
Whose serrated edges cut the heart
As we break open
To the place inside which is unbreakable
And whole.

"The imagination places the world of the future either far above us, or far below, or in a relation of metempsychosis to ourselves. We dream of traveling through the universe - but is not the universe within ourselves? The depths of our spirit are unknown to us - the mysterious way leads inwards. Eternity with its worlds - the past and future - is in ourselves or nowhere. The external world is the world of shadows - it throws its shadow into the realm of light. At present this realm certainly seems to us so dark inside, lonely, shapeless. But how entirely different it will seem to us - when this gloom is past, and the body of shadows has moved away. We will experience greater enjoyment than ever, for our spirit has been deprived."
-Georg Friedrich Philipp von Hardenburg (Novalis)

As always not endorsing/refuting real world beliefs:

"A definition of dream space
1. Let us imagine that we could collect and catalog all possible dreams[7]. These dreams would differ from each other along a large number of parameters. Some dreams would be very concrete, some very abstract. Some dreams would be very close to waking life, some would be very bizarre. Some dreams would be terrifying, some would be sublime, and so forth. We could imagine some kind of catalog system that would let us assign a value to each dream along each of this infinite set of parameters.

2. Now, suppose that we want to orient ourselves in this dream space. It will be nice to have some kind of zero point or reference point around which we can construct our order. Let us, then, stipulate that the center of this space is roughly defined by our experience of waking life. In this way of arranging dreams, those dreams that are most concrete, most literal, most like our waking life in all respects are those that are closest to the center. Those dreams that are more intense, more abstract, more bizarre, etc. than our waking life are arranged at greater and greater distances from the center.

3. This space of all possible dreams, oriented around a general center point resembling waking, physical life, is what I want to call dream space"

One track mentions forgetting the duality of wrong and right - in context this is about society's dictates rather than inner morality but perhaps it could also be used in game as a paean for Neutrality/Nature?

From Adventure Time, Something Big:

Maja: Keepers of the clock, masters of dimension, bear witness!

[Maja lets go of her cloak, revealing Princess Bubblegum's rock T-shirt.]

Maja: By my power, I compel you to converge!

[Time suddenly slows and stops. Her cloak stops in midair, and birds flying overhead are suspended.]

Maja: Past and present, be one. Awaken the terror of a forgotten age in this moment that is all moments in the blink of an eye.

[The moon turns into an giant eye and blinks.]

Maja: Darren, the ancient sleeper, arise!

[Darren rises out of the ground.]

Darren: I had a dream I was fighting an army that could birth new soldiers from their own blood. I was endless. Does that make sense?

Mythic Paths of the Lost Spheres - Godhunter

http://drivethrurpg.com/product/151252/Mythic-Paths-of-the-Lost-Spheres--Godhunter?src=also_purchased

Quote:
You might want to try out Godhunter first if you are looking to have your character rage against the Heavens themselves! Madmen. Heretics of the most extreme blasphemy. Enemies of the Gods themselves. Demigods spurned by their own parents. Opportunistic leeches of the limitless power of the Divinities. A lot of things can drive a character to the Path of the Godhunter.

These enemies of the divine are often the result of stories of tragedy that would shatter lesser beings but instead the Godhunter learns to break the divine powers that oppose them.

My Life as a Cree Healer

http://realitysandwich.com/317335/my-life-as-a-cree-healer/

"My beliefs about the world are shown in the following Medicine Wheel diagram, in which a number of different variables are systematically related. For example, the direction East is associated with the Sun, the Eagle spirit, Autumn, and the color yellow. The circumference of the circle represents the Sweetgrass Trail, around which the individual travels as he seeks to pass through life successfully and eventually return to the Great Spirit, the source of all life. This diagram does not attempt to be all-inclusive, rather, it provides examples of the kinds of factors and forces that play a role in how the world is ordered. The complex nature of their relationships must be understood by anyone, such as a healer, who seeks to tap in to the wisdom and power of the Cosmos.

The primary role of a healer is to help people who approach him in the correct way, asking for healing and guidance from the Great Spirit. Since the Great Spirit is too holy to be approached directly, the healer must work with Spirit Helpers, the Grandfathers. The Grandfathers carry requests from the healer to the Great Spirit and return to the healer with information and spiritual power. The healer then channels this assistance to those who have requested it. In other words, the healer is an intermediary between ordinary humans and Spirit Helpers, who, in turn, are intermediaries between the healer and the Great Spirit."

Quotes from Thus Were Their Faces by Silvina Ocampo:

Quote:
In the kitchen, sitting on a high-backed wicker chair, Leopoldina was smoking. She was so old that she looked like a scribble; you couldn't see her eyes or her mouth. She smelled like earth, grass, dry leaves: not like a person. She announced storms and bad weather like a barometer; even before I did she could smell the mountain lion coming down from the hills to eat the young goats or twist the necks of the colts. Despite not having left the house for thirty years, she knew, as birds know, where there were ripe nuts, figs, and peaches, in what valley, beside which stream. Even the crispin bird, with its sad song, shy as a fox, came down one day to eat bread crumbs dipped in milk out of her hands, surely believing that she was a bush.

Quote:
A silence of cloisters and roses was in our hearts. No one could guess the mystery that linked us. Not even those colored pencils or the jujube candies or the flowers he bestowed on me gave us away. He would write my name on the trunks of trees with his penknife, and when he was being punished, he would write it with chalk on the wall.

"Decisions...in this moment..

"Decisions...in this moment...are based in either love or fear. So many of us choose our path out of fear disguised as practicality. What we really want seems impossibly out of reach and ridiculous to expect, so we never dare to ask the universe for it...You can ask the universe for it...You can fail at what you don't want, so you might as well take a chance at what you love. Your need for acceptance can make you invisible in this world...Risk being seen in all your glory."

"The essence of being human is that one does not seek perfection, that one is sometimes willing to commit sins for the sake of loyalty, that one does not push asceticism to the point where it makes friendly intercourse impossible, and that one is prepared in the end to be defeated and broken up by life, which is the inevitable price of fastening one's love upon other human individuals."
-Orwell

Wiki for the Nobilis RPG:

http://nobilis.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

Quote:
A Noble is a being (which doesn't have to be Human nor Humanoid, though most are) that has been endowed with a Imperator's Soul Shard, making them a servant, or Power, of the Imperator. Each Noble represents the living essentia of one or more concepts in the world. It's their job to protect what they represent: their Estates.

A Noble has nearly endless powers and is virtually a part of existence itself.

Warlocks Journal #20 -

Warlocks Journal #20 - Chronomancy spells (free)

http://drivethrurpg.com/product/150263/Warlocks-Journal-20--Chronomancy-spells

Quote:
The Warlock’s Journal is an interdimensional book that teleports from place to place, recording knowledge in whatever location it finds itself. The places it goes may be widely separated in time and space and even be in different dimensions or alternate realities.

The handful of people who have actually seen the book more than once suggest that it sends its information back to some central location, as they have seen the book nearly filled with information, only to find it almost empty again, or filled with completely different information, at some later point.

Of course, since there is no real proof that the book itself travels through time in a linear manner, such analysis is speculation at best. What powerful entity could have created such a marvel? Where is the ultimate repository (if any) of the wealth of knowledge collected by the Journal in its roving, and is its creator still waiting there, learning about the multiverse? It is, perhaps, better not to know.

You roleplay one of the famous sukenja, rare and gifted humanoids serving honorably under the rule of powerful northern noblemen in a vicious age-old war of provinces, or adventuring on their own through the dangerous but rewarding world of the 3rd Era of Radokai.

After the end of the Old World; society, nobility, wealth, popular culture, industry and the very mind of both commoners and the northern elite of the Third Era is governed and maddened by Kreen: a precious blue ore with negative weight, and a mesmerizing power over the mind of the humanoids called Nunjii.

Ohunkakan: The Living Myths (free)

http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/151593/Ohunkakan-The-Living-Myths

Quote:
The old stories still live. Tale-tellers practice their art, the constant flux of their tellings and retellings weaving an ever-changing tapestry of myth that shapes the fabric of reality. Landmarks, villages, and even the patterns of stars shift across the landscape, the familiar freely mixes with the mythic, and elements of dim ages stubbornly persist alongside images pulled from modern Earth. Even today, a tale told powerfully enough might just become true.

Ohunkakan: The Living Myths presents an ancient recursion. Spun from the traditional stories of the Lakota people, shaped and reshaped by the timeless war between the Thunderer and the Horned Serpent, and peopled by spirits, Ohunkakan is vivid and changeable: every object seems to shudder and breathe with life as if freshly imagined. Find creatures, artifacts, characters, and a fascinating, highly detailed description of this unique recursion in Ohunkakan: The Living Myths.

Ultimate Intrigue Playtest

http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/ultimateIntrigue

Quote:
The streets of almost every large city are rife with corruption. Greedy merchants, cruel guards, and bloodthirsty gangs oppress the poor common folk and those who dare to stand up against them find themselves with the dagger in the back more often than not. That is where the vigilante comes in. With their true identity hidden behind a secret persona, the vigilante is unafraid to take the fight to the powerful. Of course, not all vigilantes fight for what is good and just. Some use their secret identity to commit acts of depravity, unburdened by guilt or consequence.

Due to release in early 2016, Ultimate Intrigue includes a new base class for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: the vigilante. By participating in this playtest, you can help us make this class a fun, vibrant part of the game.

This playtest will remain open until Thursday, July 20, 2015. So get going and grab the free playtest document, and try out the vigilante for yourself! Once you've tested it out, head over to the playtest forums and give us your feedback.

We are truly excited to see what you think of the vigilante. It's a class unlike any other that we've ever done and we hope it will make for an exciting addition to your game.

Monster Mondays: Agogwe

http://www.koboldpress.com/monster-mondays-agogwe/

Quote:
The agogwe are discreet and reclusive creatures that inhabit the central forests of the southern continent, though they they hide among others of their kind if threatened. Their long arms and the wooly reddish hair that entirely covers the creature help it to pass as an ape, although a keen observer can notice slight differences such as the humanoid’s rounded forehead, small canines, and opposable toes. Some specimens with black or gray fur have also been observed.

"My breast it is as cold as clay,
My breath is earthly strong;
And if you kiss my cold clay lips,
Your days they won’t be long.

How often on yonder grave, sweetheart.
Where we were want to walk,
The fairest flower that ever I saw
Has withered to a stalk,

When will we meet again, sweetheart?
When will we meet again?
When the autumn leaves that fall from trees
Are green and spring up, again."

There is a voice that doesn’t use words. Listen.
—Rumi

"You cannot send a thought to another person without first being filled with heightened emotion. . . . In this state you mix your thought, message or directive with your intensified feeling and make the thought a pure feeling. It is concentrated in your belly where the intensity of your feeling escalates to a point where it can no longer be held. Then it is released along the line coming out of your belly and directed to another person’s belly. They immediately respond when you communicate in this way. It may seem like we send our thoughts, but we are actually sending our feelings. Not weak, arbitrary feelings, but intense, almost overwhelming feelings. . . . A thought, message or request is changed into a feeling. . . . The feeling is the carrier."
-Ropes to God: Experiencing the Bushman Spiritual Universe

"I . . . feel vibrations which thrill my whole being. . . . In this exalted state I see clearly what is obscure in my ordinary moods; I then feel capable of drawing inspiration from above as Beethoven did. . . . Those vibrations assume the form of distinct mental images. . . . The ideas flow in upon me, directly from God, and not only do I see distinct themes in my mind’s eye, but they are clothed in the right forms, harmonies and orchestration. Measure by measure the finished project is revealed to me."
-Johannes Brahms

'I had the impression of the entire universe . . . filled with light and intelligence and communication. . . . Kind of like the top of my head coming off, letting the rest of the universe into my own brain. . . . There was a sense of an Eternal Father completely conscious . . . in whom I had just awakened. I had just awakened into his brain, or into his consciousness, a larger consciousness than my own. . . . [It was] the consciousness of the entire universe.”'

A Magical Education

http://www.necronomi.com/projects/manifesto/

I don't know if there's a good system for this kind of magic that would Planescape but I think it might work as a starting point to make things a bit more esoteric when it comes to the arcane.

Would Planescape work if there was no definite contact with gods? If the planes themselves were not easily mapped out, and those who traveled between them were moving through something more mysterious?

"There is always more mass needed to explain the observed motion of the stars than is seen by directly counting up all the stars, gas, and dust.

There are only two explanations for this. Either the second method fails because there is much more mass in a galaxy than is visible, or Newton's laws fail to correctly predict the motions of stars in the gravitational field of their galaxy...The dark-matter hypothesis is preferred mostly because the only other possibility - that we are wrong about Newton's laws, and by extension general relativity - is too scary to contemplate."
